Back to Glass

As I mentioned I've been on a rather forced sabbatical from the glass for at least 3 months now. I've been looking at some work from the past that I enjoyed making..especially sharded beads. Love blowing the shards and watching the flow and join of glass and color to create one...and I'm feeling the stirrings of love again. ~whew~

I did make some wee little snowboys the other day..no pics yet though. (the one in the image is from last year) I've got one tiny one dangling from my cel as we speak.
I plan on having enough of those finished to fulfill a gallery shop order and have one or two up on Etsy by next week end. Promise.

For the love of Rocks

I come from a long line of dedicated rock hounds. I know that because my mother  told me this one day as we walked back from getting our mail in rural Port Alberni,  BC. The 10 minute walk was sometimes much longer as we searched out special  looking pebbles or of course, the'wishing stones' which on Vancouver Island were  usually granite with a skinny stripe of quartz that encircled the entire stone. My beautiful mother who we lost in July 2023. My older sister and I. We've been lucky to bring back precious [to me] earth stones from many parts of  the world.   Lake Tiberias in Israel, Persian Gulf area, Dingle, Ireland, Isle of Sky area,  Edinburgh,  and Inverness areas in Scotland, a walk back to our hotel in  Strasbourg,  France.  The Levent Valley near Malatya, Turkey sometimes referred to as the Grand  Canyons of the Anatolia. Creating an organic glass Bead

I have a love for organic works of art..movement, line and color that mimic nature or are earth inspired... A push or subtle exaggeration of textures, color and movement ..all of those elements play a role in organics. Sometimes it's simply a matter of getting out of the way... Provide the right atomosphere.. The correct ratio of oxygen to fuel, that perfect combination of glasses and metals, the right temperature in your kiln for that particular glass.. don't forget to check the alignment of the stars ~ and then get out of the way..stop pushing and pulling with the form. Listen and see. ..allow the glass to be the star. Gravity, the glass itself, temperature and serendipity ...all combine to create an 'organic' piece of art~
