Creating an organic glass Bead

Image
I have a love for organic works of art..movement, line and color that mimic nature or are earth inspired... A push or subtle exaggeration of textures, color and movement ..all of those elements play a role in organics. Sometimes it's simply a matter of getting out of the way... Provide the right atomosphere.. The correct ratio of oxygen to fuel, that perfect combination of glasses and metals, the right temperature in your kiln for that particular glass.. don't forget to check the alignment of the stars ~ and then get out of the way..stop pushing and pulling with the form. Listen and see. ..allow the glass to be the star. Gravity, the glass itself, temperature and serendipity ...all combine to create an 'organic' piece of art~

Scheduling your Muse

Image
Thursday morning.. I'm trying to keep to somewhat of a schedule. Contrary to what those with a regular 9-5 may think, working at home is difficult. At least for those who are undisciplined ~like me. I've decided that Thursday will be for blog writing..hence, the entry...and for working on the construction of jewelry, which I don't enjoy nearly as much as I do melting the glass. That would explain the 3 containers of beads you see in front of my work space there. The trouble is 'creativity' and 'schedules' ...and there is a word for this but my brain is failing me at the moment. They just do not work well together..it's as though someone is standing over you saying 'Create...NOW' One sort of rebels at that and locks up. However, if you're going to be professional and make your work a successful business you have to find a way to keep your muse on call. I've filled my work space with color and past work...drawings, paintings, words...as wel...

Polish and scrub...blech

Today is going to be a work day..and not a fun work day like turning on my torch and burning glass work day, but a scrub the floor kind of work day. I'm not fond of cleaning my house. I do like the results though so today has to be a work day. Unfortunately. In all of your wide world travels have you ever come across the FlyLady ? Lofty thoughts but.. staying organized just does not happen for some people. We must actually like things a little chaotic. I go through cycles it seems, and I have a need right now for some orderly rows and matched towels... I need the Fly Lady.

I kinda like a good mess

At least I must... I'm always in one. I can relate to Charles Shwatrz's messy PigPen, because I've seen this premise in action. If you've ever seen the character you know that he doesn't have to do much to get dirty. In fact, he doesn't even move around. Smoot and grime just begin to mysteriously settle on him and in no time he's filthy. Both of my work areas have more than once experienced this odd phenomena. That desk has now moved from creatively organized to a creative disaster...I know what I'm doing today....
