Slide presentation of some Flame worked glass beads..

Each bead has been created in the flame with a pencil thin rod of glass and further decorated with any one of several techniques. One of my favorite is shards...the shards are prepared in advance of the base bead, on a hollow mandrel. A small wind of glass is applied to the end of the mandrel and carefully sealed up in a sort of beehive of glass. Small breaths of air are blown into the opposite end until you've blown a wonderful bubble of glass on the end. This bubble is then broken..producing the shards, which are then applied in the flame to a base bead. Great fun.. I know, I've talked about this before haven't I? and still no pix. What sort of a blogger am I?! The next youtube should be the shards...I'll think about that.

Creating an organic glass Bead

I have a love for organic works of art..movement, line and color that mimic nature or are earth inspired... A push or subtle exaggeration of textures, color and movement ..all of those elements play a role in organics. Sometimes it's simply a matter of getting out of the way... Provide the right atomosphere.. The correct ratio of oxygen to fuel, that perfect combination of glasses and metals, the right temperature in your kiln for that particular glass.. don't forget to check the alignment of the stars ~ and then get out of the way..stop pushing and pulling with the form. Listen and see. ..allow the glass to be the star. Gravity, the glass itself, temperature and serendipity ...all combine to create an 'organic' piece of art~

Potomac bead box!

Last month I was invited to join Potomac's influencer program. This means that every so often Potomac Bead company sends participants out a box of supplies for them to play with. We make 3 or 4 pieces of jewelry and tag them on social media.
